Had a blast working on this one, I found the expressions priceless.

I approached the doll and raised its chin, realizing with horror that it was stitched together from bits of human flesh.  I pulled my hand away and was shocked to find fresh blood.

I tell myself now that as I turned to run I didn’t see life in its single intact eye… I tell myself it didn’t blink… but in the darkness of the night I can see it, watching me as I stumbled from that terrible room.

Decided I wasn’t completely set on the design of the first doll sketch so I decided to play around with it a bit more, I think the final will end up with elements of both sketches.

A loose sketch of an idea that’s been floating around my head for a while now.  Think of it as a different direction on the mad doctor trying to create life.  There’s a good chance there will be a final based off this one.

Another experiment in subtractive drawing.  It’s rough, but I’m starting to get the hang of the powdered graphite again, and for the most part I was playing with textures here.  I think in the future I might try mixing some methods and see what happens.

I decided to mix things up a bit and so this one is a mostly subtractive drawing.  I started with no ideas, a blank page, and “My Weakness” by Moby playing on my Zune and just let it evolve as I drew.  Think of it as a stream of consciousness exercise with powdered graphite.

Oh the sounds a creature like this must make…

This piece I’ve been working on for a while.  It got a bit sidetracked thanks to a couple of commissions I had to finish up, but you can see the original sketch here to get an idea of how it started.

I really got into this one and even did a bit of writing about it.  The story seed is pretty rough though so I’m leaving it off for now, although I might go ahead and post it after some revision.  Right now I just wanted to make sure I got this posted.

The second of the two new Dog Story promo illustrations that I showed sketches for here.

This one was a little more up in the air than the last, it just had to be the renegade dog.  The catch was I still wanted him as fun as the other dogs, and to still fit in.  The idea occurred to me that the rebels of the 50s would still be a reasonable fit, and I started looking in that direction for inspiration.

The theater had much more specific ideas this time around, and I loved the idea of one of the dogs being a ballerina in a tutu.  This one was pretty fun to work with, even if there WAS a catastrophic failure on the first of the finals and it was destroyed half way through.  This version ended up coming out better anyway.

Once again I’ve ventured into the world of cartoon dogs for the awesome Dog Story Theater.
